TJ Carter, John Cartwright expected back for Memphis vs. Stephen F. Austin
If there is one thing good to take from the postponement of Memphis’ game against Navy, it was having the extra week of rest.
Heading into Saturday’s home game against Stephen F. Austin (11 a.m., ESPN+), the Tigers are expecting to get a few key contributors back on defense.
TJ Carter
Coach Ryan Silverfield said on Monday that he anticipates TJ Carter finally being able to play.
The best cornerback on the team, Carter was injured against SMU and missed the next four games. The senior was available and dressed for the Nov. 7 game against South Florida but did not play.
“He was able to get out on the field a little bit more, so we’re excited about his progress. I do believe, fingers crossed, that we’ll get to see TJ out on the field this Saturday,” Silverfield said.
John Cartwright
It’s great timing for the secondary to potentially get one of their leaders back for the final stretch of the season.
Defensive lineman John Cartwright is another player who could be making his return against the Lumberjacks.
“He was a guy that we originally thought would be lost for the season with a surgery after the first game. We’re excited, don’t be surprised if you see him out on the field Saturday as well. He’s recovered well, surgery went great and he’s way ahead of schedule,” Silverfield said.
Cartwright, a sophomore, had a single tackle against Arkansas State in his lone action this season. His return provides more depth up front for the Tigers.
