Memphis (4-2, 1-2 American Athletic Conference) enters Saturday’s matchup against No. 10 UCF (5-0, 2-0) looking to prove the Knights aren’t the only ones in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium with a high-powered offense.

Offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham answered five quick questions about his offense through six games.

Q: What have you thought of your offense through six games?

A: “I think when we get 11 guys doing the same thing, we’re really, really good. When we have 10 guys doing the same thing, we’re average. When we have nine guys doing the same thing, we’re really, really bad.”

Q: How do you get everybody on the same page?

A: “I think it starts as a coaching staff limiting what we do and keeping it simple for our guys to make sure they can go out and play fast, play with tempo. Because the more snaps we get, the more touches Darrell Henderson, Patrick Taylor, Tony Pollard, Sean Dykes, Damonte Coxie get. We have to be able to limit what we do and go play fast and get our guys the football.”

Q: You’ve run more than you’ve passed this season. That hasn’t been the case in years past. Did that just happen or was it always part of the plan?

A: “I just think that’s part of playing to your strengths. We have really good backs and a veteran offensive line. If you look at our track record when I’ve been with coach (Norvell) and coach before (Dillingham arrived), we’re always going to adapt to the personnel we have. We feel we’re really good up front and have some of the best backs in the country. We want to make sure we get them touches.”

Q: How do you think Brady White bounced back from the (40-24 loss to) Tulane?

A: “I think he’s owned the football every game. He hasn’t put the ball in jeopardy in the passing game, which is our No. 1 goal every week. He’s extremely efficient. I think he’s completing 70 percent of his passes. So, I think he’s doing a nice job of owning the football and getting us into the right play. He had two checks last week where we checked into touchdowns in the running game, which isn’t going to be talked about. It’s one of those things that he adds that nobody notices. He’s done a really nice job. He just needs to work on sticking and driving the football, being on time and on rhythm, which was a struggle for us in the Tulane game.”

Q: What do you see in the UCF defense?

A: “They’re a lot different than last year. They have really good defensive players. Their line is stout with really good veterans in the back end. Their linebackers are really good. Defensively, they do what they do. They’re not going to be a team that overschemes week-to-week. They’re going to line up and play their defense. They’re not going to let you – as an offense – dictate what they do. They’re going to run what they run. You as an offense have to be extremely, extremely prepared for the variety of looks you could get.”

Fact sheet:

This nationally televised game is an ABC/ESPN2 mirror, meaning in the Southeast the game will be on ABC and in other regions televised on ESPN2. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CST in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

No. 10 UCF rides an 18-game winning streak into the Liberty Bowl, while Memphis is on a 12-game home regular season winning streak of it own. The last four ranked opponents the Tigers faced at home left with a loss.
