Three-star defensive end Cole Mashburn from Norman, Oklahoma, plans to enroll early at Memphis, joining the Tigers in January, according to multiple sources.

The January enrollment would mean Mashburn could participate in the 2019 spring practice.

Mashburn, who committed to Memphis a month ago, racked up 74 total tackles, seven tackles for loss and one sack through eight games as a senior at Norman North Point High School. According to MaxPreps, he’s also rushed for 173 yards and six touchdowns.

Mashburn is the younger brother of Tiger linebacker Cade Mashburn.

Head coach Mike Norvell wanted to bolster the pass rush with the class of 2019. Three-star defensive tackle Trevis Hopper and three-star defensive and Joseph Honeysucker are part of that plan alongside Mashburn. The Tigers also added four-star defensive end Kayode Oladele during fall camp.

Three-star linebacker Ja’Len Sims also committed to the Tigers earlier this fall. Mashburn and Sims are the No. 15 and No. 16-ranked recruits in Memphis football history, according to 247Sports.

The early signing period runs Dec. 19-21. Signing early and enrolling in January gives Memphis time to develop Mashburn in their system.

Norvell’s class stands at No. 56 in the nation and No. 3 in the American Athletic Conference with 16 total commitments. The Tigers could take a few more commitments in this smaller class, but won’t reach the maximum of 25 commitments.

GoTigers247 reported three-star tight end Drew Martin plans to enroll early when he committed to the Tigers.
