After starting with a 3-0 record for the third straight season, Memphis will face one of its biggest tests of the year in a home game against Arkansas on Sept. 20.

Greg Desrosiers was injured early in the first quarter of the season opener against Chattanooga. He’ll miss a second straight game.

Memphis beat Troy 38-17 last year, but Trojans quarterback Goose Crowder missed most of that game with an injury. The Tigers must deal with a healthy Crowder now.

Brendon Lewis is averaging 74.5 rushing yards in the season’s first two games. That puts him on track to become the Tigers’ leading quarterback rusher for a single season. 

Gianni Spetic’s 55-yard bomb in Memphis’ 38-16 road victory over Georgia State gave the Tigers their first lead of the game going into halftime.

“The biggest thing I’ve learned since I’ve gotten out (of coaching) is that right now, there’s about 10 or 12 (teams) that have a chance to win,” the 2005 national championship winner told the Memphis Touchdown Club. “And those are the ones that are putting big money into it. Everybody else? They’re trying to survive.”

Five different receivers have three catches or more after the first two games. That receivers’ room is producing by committee, and Ryan Silverfield says the variety is a positive.
