Germantown water test results deliver bad news

Trace amounts of diesel fuel were found Saturday, July 22 in some Germantown water samples.

Residents are advised to continue using tap water only for flushing toilets.

Diesel fuel leak affected 4.2 million gallons of water in Germantown

On Sunday July 23, one case of bottled water per car will be available for city residents at Forest Hill Elementary at 3368 Forest Hill Road from 1 to 4 p.m. 

Residents can also bring their own containers to fill with an unlimited supply of water at Bailey Station Elementary at 3435 Bailey Station Road in Collierville from 1 to 4 p.m. 

Germantown Marketing and Communications Manager Jessica Comas said additional water samples will be collected and submitted for testing Sunday. 

Germantown restaurants take hit with water order, power outages

“Results will be expedited,” Comas said. “We expect to have results by late Sunday afternoon.”

The initial round of water sample testing by the City of Germantown has been delayed due to an overnight power outage at the Memphis Light, Gas and Water testing lab.

A diesel fuel leak in Germantown, reported Thursday, July 20, leaked 100 gallons of fuel and contaminated 4.2 million gallons of water in the suburb the city said Friday evening.
