Collierville Alderwoman Maureen Fraser and Alderman Billy Patton will both appear on the ballot in November when the town elects its next mayor.
Records with the Shelby County Election Commission show Fraser filed her paperwork Friday, June 21, followed by Patton on Wednesday, June 26.
Current Mayor Stan Joyner, 74, announced last month that he would not run for office again.
First elected Collierville mayor in 2008, Joyner served for decades in different capacities in the town’s government including 25 years as an alderman and 12 years on the Planning Commission.
“If I did run and win, I’d be 78 (at the end of the term),” Joyner said in June.
Not long after Joyner’s announcement, Fraser and Patton announced their plans to run for the open seat.
While neither are up for reelection this year in their current offices, they are both required to submit resignation letters to Town Administrator Molly Mehner by July 16 due to Collierville’s resign-to-run rule.
Records indicate Patton has submitted his letter. Fraser had not submitted hers as of Tuesday afternoon.
“I understand that this letter of resignation is irrevocable, and the spirit and the intent of this provision in the charter was clearly meant to give fair and equitable treatment to Aldermen positions 1, 2 and 4,” Patton wrote.
