Germantown Alderman Rocky Janda announced Thursday morning will not seek reelection to the suburb’s Position 5 seat he has held the past eight years.

The Position 3 alderman pulled for Position 5 and is receiving signatures less than 24 hours before the deadline.

Germantown has been charged for legal counsel expenses the Shelby County Election Commission incurred after John Barzizza contested mayoral election results.

Aldermen reviewed the general fund and capital improvements in a work session on Wednesday. The aldermen plan to have the final review of the budget by the end of August.

The Germantown community has signed a letter calling for the suburban school district to better address racial issues in the schools. Superintendent Jason Manuel said he is willing to listen and eager to change.
