U.S. Engineers suggest DeSoto County flood wall, levee
Elizabeth M. Burks, an engineer with the Memphis district of the Corps, told the county Board of Supervisors a 3-foot-high levee and 5-foot-high flood wall would eliminate a “two-year event” and mitigate a less common, larger flood called a “100-year event.” (Courtesy of U.S. Corps of Engineers )
The Corps wants to create a remedy to Horn Lake Creek breaching its banks, as it did in September 2014, as well as restoring the creek’s ecosystem.
