DeSoto supervisor concerned about immigrant facility in Tunica County

By , Daily Memphian Published: July 03, 2024 4:00 AM CT

The plan for housing immigrant children in a former Tunica County casino could change the climate of North Mississippi, DeSoto County Supervisor Lee Caldwell said.

On a recent episode of “Red, White & True” — a podcast from the DeSoto County Republican Party — Caldwell said the idea, first proposed earlier this year despite objections from Tunica County officials, has “not been resolved.”

“They want to house them at the Harrah’s Casino, and they’re saying that they are going to keep them there on site,” Caldwell said. “All of their needs will be cared for — their food, their housing, their education, even health care. Everything’s going to be right there at that facility.”
