Southaven officials removed a Memphis-based company from the police department’s wrecker rotation following allegations that the company transported vehicles across state lines, potentially interfering with criminal investigations.
In an interoffice email, police Capt. Brett Logazino detailed two recent incidents when a wrecker service transported vehicles from DeSoto County back to Memphis, a violation of the company’s agreement with the city of Southaven.
“The police department could run into a major problem if a vehicle is towed to a lot out of our city, and we need to conduct a search warrant,” Logazino added. “If the vehicle is towed out of the city, we would then have to get a warrant from the other jurisdiction, which could create a major issue with getting evidence....”
