DeSoto County Board of Supervisors chooses leaders

The DeSoto County Board of Supervisors elected Mark Gardner as its next president during its regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 6.

The board also voted to keep Jessie Medlin as vice president.

Gardner replaces former president Lee Caldwell, who will continue on the board but not as an officer. Customarily, the board elects a new president each year, regardless of whether or not that year follows an election cycle.

“We all work together,” Caldwell said before giving up her center chair for Gardner. “We don’t always agree, but we all have great respect for each other, and we’ve come to a common place for the people of this county.”
