On the rocks: State system delays leave DeSoto liquor stores running dry

DeSoto County liquor stores, restaurants, and bars are facing supply shortages and empty shelves following a weeks-long shipping backlog at the Mississippi Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) warehouse.

While state officials say they have solved the underlying software issues, local business owners report they are still missing countless orders and losing money by the hour.

Because Mississippi is a control state, the Department of Revenue’s ABC division acts as the sole wholesale distributor for all legal wine and spirits sold within the state.
