Like a weed, crime needs to be addressed at the root
Community Conversations, convened by The Daily Memphian, gives voice to the many reasons for — and solutions to — the crime problem
The Daily Memphian, in collaboration with Trust Marketing Inc., recently conducted a series of community conversations with 75 residents from around the city about crime, what’s causing it and what should be done about it. Participants from each neighborhood all listed poverty and blight as crime-related issues. (The Daily Memphian file)
“Blight, litter, dilapidated housing, and poor air quality pose problems for public safety. Public safety extends far beyond crime. Litter and trash indicate community apathy and gives license to potential criminals,” the survey’s results read.
