Geoff Calkins has been chronicling Memphis and Memphis sports for more than two decades. He is host of "The Geoff Calkins Show" from 9-11 a.m. M-F on 92.9 FM. Calkins has been named the best sports columnist in the country five times by the Associated Press sports editors, but still figures his best columns are about the people who make Memphis what it is.

He walks.

He starts walking at the break of dawn and keeps walking until dusk.

He begins walking at the Mississippi River and winds up walking to the Mississippi River but walks miles and miles in between.

He walks to the 50-yard line of Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.

He walks along with The Peabody hotel ducks.

For the past six years, Josh Greer, 40, has walked the equivalent of a marathon around this city every March 21.

Why?

Here’s why he does it and what we can learn from his annual trek.
