By , Daily Memphian Published: July 12, 2024 4:00 AM CT

If you thought theaters were dark in the summer, think again. Four shows open in July with topics ranging from opera to Greek tragedy to pop music to new works, but all are women-centric.

‘Antigone or And Still She Must Rise Up’ at Germantown Community Theatre

Germantown Community Theatre opens its 53rd season with an all-student production of “Antigone or And Still She Must Rise Up.”

Madeline Sayet wrote the modern adaptation of the Greek myth in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic and civil unrest. The plague has not yet left Thebes, but this broken world sees a new leader rise.
