Proposed recovery home in Midtown sparks neighbors’ concern

Residents in Midtown’s Cooper-Young neighborhood are mobilizing against a planned recovery home for addicts in a residential house on Nelson Avenue.
A Vision For You Recovery, which currently operates three houses near Nashville, would operate the home at 1925 Nelson Ave. The house would accommodate up to 11 people, with three people working as managers and up to eight others in recovery from addiction. A Vision For You is a for-profit business started by Tyler Bell and Marshall Wilson, two recovering addicts themselves.
About a dozen neighbors met with Wilson Monday, July 1, to discuss the proposal. The residents have also started a petition to oppose the center, reached out to city officials for help and made preliminary contact with an attorney, two representatives said Tuesday.
“In the meeting, (a neighbor) asked, ‘Are we getting violent offenders?’ He said he’s not allowed to discuss that,” said Shawn Hobbs, who lives on the same block of Nelson as the proposed recovery house.
