Southwest hackers sought ransom in cyberattack

Cybercriminals who recently attacked the network at Southwest Tennessee Community College demanded a ransom, but no money was paid, according to a source with knowledge of the situation who was not authorized to speak publicly.
This makes at least the fourth ransomware attack on a Tennessee public college or university in less than three years, reports show.
No ransom was paid in any of the other events, which were Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville in December 2021, Austin Peay State University in April 2022 and Chattanooga State Community College in May 2023, according to various reports.
