On Saturday night, the Memphis Redbirds defeated the Gwinnett Stripers 8-2, but for the night, the team didn’t play as the Redbirds.

As part of its participation in Minor League Baseball’s “The Nine” project, the Memphis Redbirds played as the Memphis Red Sox during Memphis Red Sox Night at AutoZone Park. The entire night was a tribute to the legendary Negro League franchise that was based in Memphis for more than 30 years.

Redbird players wore replicas of the Memphis Red Sox jersey and were referred to as the “Red Sox” all night. Fans wore both Redbirds and Red Sox attire as they shouted “Go Red Sox” along with the announcer.
