Horn Lake alderman’s attorney says his client repaid funds

A former Horn Lake alderman arrested earlier this week for unemployment fraud repaid his debts months ago his attorney said during a press conference on Thursday, Sept. 12.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Sept. 11, DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton, joined by state auditor Shad White, announced the indictment of Charlie Roberts, the former alderman, for accepting unemployment payments during the COVID-19 pandemic while working as a city official.
However Tony Farese, the attorney for Roberts, believes that if state officials had further investigated the matter, his client would never have been charged.
