DeSoto County sheriff’s town hall focuses on school safety after threats

During a town hall meeting with the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office Monday, Sept. 23, the conversation focused on crime spillover out of Memphis and recent threats made to school districts across the U.S.
About 100 residents gathered at Compel Church in Southaven to hear from DeSoto County Sheriff Thomas Tuggle II and members of his command staff. The forum marked Tuggle’s second town hall since taking office earlier this year.
“We sit right next to one of the most dangerous cities in the country, but our crime rate has remained low,” Tuggle said, referring to Memphis at DeSoto’s northern doorstep. “That’s because we take pride in what we do, and most importantly, we don’t want you to walk around this community feeling unsafe.”
