Southaven converting closed Fred’s store into new court building

In response to a growing municipal court system, Southaven is repurposing a closed Fred’s retail store it purchased earlier this year into a courthouse.
Southaven wary for new business moving into ‘epicenter of auto crimes’
The city’s Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday, Oct. 22, during a special meeting to award a contract to Urban Arch for initial design services. The Memphis-based firm bid $65,000 to get the project started, which will eventually turn the shuttered building at 8912 Northwest Drive into Southaven’s second court building.
“We’ve made tremendous investments in our police department,” said Southaven Mayor Darren Musselwhite. “When your police is more active, your court is more active. So our court is very busy.”
