Geoff Calkins has been chronicling Memphis and Memphis sports for more than two decades. He is host of "The Geoff Calkins Show" from 9-11 a.m. M-F on 92.9 FM. Calkins has been named the best sports columnist in the country five times by the Associated Press sports editors, but still figures his best columns are about the people who make Memphis what it is.

Ron Olson’s best prank never made it to radio.

This was back in 1992. President George H.W. Bush was headed to Bentonville to present Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart Inc., with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Olson decided it would be great fun to try to call Walmart headquarters and get Walton on the phone. Preston Davis, his producer at the time, did a spot-on impersonation of the president.
