Tennessee lawmaker considering ‘all options’ for MSCS

More leadership turmoil at Memphis-Shelby County Schools could bring back proposals for state intervention in Tennessee’s largest school district, a state lawmaker told The Daily Memphian.
Rep. Mark White, a Memphis Republican who won reelection in November, said Tuesday, Dec. 17, that “all options are on the table” to manage the dysfunction he sees with MSCS.
“We’ve got too much opportunity in our community right now for this to continue,” White said. “We’ve got to get some stability in our school system for the sake of our children.”
Among those options could be reviving a legislative proposal White floated last year that would add state-appointed school board members to the MSCS elected board of nine.
