Tigers Basketball Insider: Will fans ‘stand up’ against Ole Miss?

After a 48-hour all-out push led to the largest home crowd of the season filing into FedExForum to cheer on Memphis, many decided they had seen enough.

With a little more than three minutes left in Memphis’ 79-66 loss to Mississippi State last Saturday, Tiger fans hit the exits in droves after a fastbreak dunk by Shawn Jones Jr. extended the Bulldogs’ lead to 21 points.

As those decked out in blue and gray streamed out of the arena during the media timeout, Mississippi State’s Cameron Matthews led the visiting team’s fans in the crowd in a loud “Maroon, White!” chant. Though Starkville, Mississippi, is about 180 miles away from the Bluff City, it sounded at times like a Bulldogs home game inside Memphis’ building.
