The most wonderful time of year: Girl Scout cookie season is here

By , Daily Memphian Updated: February 08, 2025 8:59 PM CT | Published: February 08, 2025 4:59 PM CT

In an ironic twist, Genesis Bonner has bronchitis, her grandmother said, and won’t be with her fellow Girl Scouts this weekend as they begin selling their delicious cookies throughout the Mid-South.

The irony is because in 2024, 11-year-old Genesis was the top seller of Girl Scout cookies in the Greater Memphis area, which encompasses about 2,500 Girl Scouts in 188 troops. Through her hustle and hard work, Genesis sold an astounding 6737 boxes of cookies, more than 500 ahead of runner-up Jasmine Tolbert (6,206 boxes, also an impressive feat).

So while Genesis rested up at home Saturday, Feb. 8, her fellow local Girl Scouts got a head start on the 2025 cookie season without her in a massive delivery-to-customer operation that would surely impress the folks at FedEx.
