For the second time this season, the Memphis Showboats lost by one point to the Houston Roughnecks.
The Showboats (1-5) got within one point, 21-20, with 5:50 left in the game on Matt Coghlin’s 27-yard field goal, but the defense could not stop the Roughnecks from producing four first downs. And Houston (3-3) ran off the game clock Saturday at TDECU Stadium in Houston.
Houston took the lead late in the third quarter on a defensive touchdown. Armani Marsh sacked Memphis quarterback Dresser Winn, forcing a fumble that T.J. Franklin picked up and returned for a Roughnecks touchdown. Houston went for two and was successful, taking a 21-14 lead.
