Historically Black medical college grows Memphis presence

Meharry Medical College has been ramping up its presence in Memphis, where leaders say it plans to train more diverse health care professionals and focus on underserved people.

Last month, the Nashville-based college announced it had bought local Sanitas Medical Centers in Crosstown, Whitehaven and Cordova, which will join the Meharry Health Network. 

The deal was facilitated by MMCV Inc., a subsidiary of Meharry charged with nonacademic business development and investment strategies.
