Rebekah Doe recently posed a question to The Daily Memphian that has surely plagued more than one Memphian navigating the city’s parkway system, even in today’s GPS-covered world.

“How in the world did the parkways get their names? There’s North Parkway that starts out at A.W. Willis (used to be Auction Ave.), then East Parkway, then South Parkway East, East Parkway South, back to South Parkway East and finally South Parkway West,” the registered nurse wrote, her frustration evident in the words. “Please make it make sense.”
