It’s a tee-utiful day, Memphis! That’s because the pros begin their official competition at the FedEx St. Jude Championship today — Thursday, Aug. 7 — at TPC Southwind. You can also watch Coach Penny Hardaway and other sports stars (who aren’t golf stars) go at it at today’s Danny Thomas Celebrity-Am golf tournament at Spring Creek Ranch.

All students in Shelby County are back in class, since the Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville and Lakeland districts start school today. And in Cooper-Young, a shop that calls itself “Midtown’s most stylish living room” opens its doors to the public.

Feagins demands retraction: An attorney for former Memphis-Shelby County Schools Superintendent Marie Feagins is demanding The Daily Memphian take down a story and pay her lots of money.

Where the rubber meets the jail: The Shelby County Jail and the county and federal courts could all move to one site in North Memphis.
