Good morning, Mid-South. It’s Tuesday, Sept. 30, and there’s a meeting tonight on what’s next for the long-vacant, blighted Peppertree Apartments in Whitehaven. The federal government ended subsidies for renters there a couple years ago after parts of the building collapsed and injured residents.
Big change is coming to MSCS elections: All nine Memphis-Shelby County Schools board seats will be on 2026 ballot, but that’s not the only change coming to school-board elections.
Cooper-Young restaurant catches fire: And one employee was sent to the hospital.
Halbert hits back: The City of Millington said last week that Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halbert owes $30,000 in unpaid rent for her satellite office there. But Halbert pushed back Monday.
Partial victories: The judge on the Tyré Nichols civil case ruled in favor of both the city and Nichols’ mom in a disagreement over information the city wants released.
