South City’s best-known intersection has a new look that borrows the stained-glass looks of the two churches that stand on its east side and chronicles in murals several eras of a rich history.
The six-way intersection of Mississippi Boulevard, Georgia Avenue and Lauderdale Street has seen the built-geography of what is now South City change several times over. Each change has begun with new hopes and realities that have tested that hope.
That was the case when Church of God in Christ Bishop David Allen Hall Sr. walked out of Temple Church of God in Christ Thursday, Nov. 13, to help dedicate the newly painted murals and crosswalks along with sculptures — all coordinated by the nonprofit UrbanArt Commission.
