Attorneys for former youth pastor Lindsey Whiteside are asking the newly appointed special judge in the case, Jeff Weill Sr., to reject prosecutors latest attempt to resentence her.
They are calling the state’s fraud allegations false, inflammatory and an improper appeal of a sentence that falls within the range set by Mississippi law.
Whiteside, who was also a high school assistant basketball coach, pleaded guilty Oct. 13 to sexual battery with a minor. Federal charges later were added for the actions occurring across state lines. The case has drawn protests from parents who are upset that Michele Henley, a DeSoto County school board member, wrote a letter of support for Whiteside.
