Love it, Like it or Hate it: Reviewing Memphis’ heartbreaking OT loss to No. 13 Vanderbilt

Penny Hardaway is in unfamiliar territory.

The Memphis Tigers basketball coach has never been in this position before, and he didn’t expect to be here this season, either.

After the Tigers (4-6) took a 77-70 overtime loss to No. 13 Vanderbilt on Wednesday night at FedExForum, they dropped to two games below .500. It’s the first time the program has had a losing record this late into December of any season since then-first-year coach John Calipari started 4-8 in 2000-01. Hardaway in particular has finished at least one game above .500 through nonconference play in each of his first seven seasons as coach.
