More than 300 students are in limbo as a charter school fights for its future

Memphis Delta Preparatory appeared on the state’s list of low-performing priority schools last fall, a repeat appearance for the charter school throughout its decade-long existence in Soulsville.
Tennessee law requires that, in certain circumstances, school boards revoke and close charter schools that appear on the list repeatedly. Schools can’t appeal this decision.
But for now, a court order is blocking the Memphis-Shelby County Schools board from voting to close Memphis Delta Prep for that low academic performance.
