Turning up the heat: Southaven secures new fire-safety rating

By , Daily Memphian Published: March 05, 2026 4:00 AM CT

Southaven has officially been recognized as one of the premier fire departments in Mississippi, securing a Class 2 fire rating from the state office that ranks such matters.

The announcement, made during Mayor Darren Musselwhite’s report at the March 3 Board of Aldermen meeting, elevates Southaven from its previous Class 3 designation, according to the Mississippi State Rating Bureau.

This upgrade places the Southaven Fire Department in a three-way tie for the highest-rated fire protection agency in the state, sharing the tier with the coastal cities of Gulfport and Biloxi.
