‘Don’t give up on yourself’: Regional One team defy odds to save officer’s leg

As Dr. Thao Wolbert and Darrell Prewitt talked in a medical exam room at Regional One Hospital, family members and staff kept a close eye on his left leg.
That’s because Prewitt’s leg, after being hit by a car after a high-speed chase in Arkansas, was recently hanging on by a thread — or rather, a calf muscle.
More than half a dozen surgeries later — one of which lasted 12 hours — Wolbert and a team of other specialists have saved Prewitt’s leg. Prewitt a police sergeant for Marion, Arkansas, calmly described his life since nearly losing a limb.
