IKEA’s attempt to change a street name in Cordova ‘could cause a little chaos’
IKEA closed its Memphis location May 3. The company has asked the Memphis-Shelby County Land Use Control Board to change the road’s name, which is currently IKEA Way, back to its “historical designation.” (Patrick Lantrip/The Daily Memphian)
IKEA Way — where IKEA’s recently-closed Memphis store was located — could change back to its original name: Market Plaza Drive.
And the impact may be greater than just replacing a couple of street signs.
The Swedish home goods store closed its Memphis location May 3, citing changes in market share, business performance, cost structure and overall asset optimization.
