FedEx raises rural delivery fees amid intensifying parcel competition

FedEx has reclassified dozens of ZIP codes across the Mid-South, raising delivery surcharges for many rural areas and shifting some previously urban ZIPs into higher-cost tiers, according to a Memphis-based freight audit firm.
Ross Harris, CEO of A3 Freight Payment, noticed FedEx reclassified certain ZIP codes and charged more.
He said FedEx wouldn’t even consider delivery to some rural ZIP codes unless customers were willing to pay much more.
