‘An alternate Memphis’: Baron Von Opperbean opens the multiverse at Mud Island

What was once the behind-the-scenes workshop for the Mississippi River Museum on Mud Island still bears a resemblance to its former life.

But as workers were putting in place the final pieces of the new immersive experience that is replacing the museum with its Friday, May 1, opening, there were signs of the change even there.

A wooden box bore the spray-painted stencil emblem of the “Meridian” authority bearing a single eye in its triangular center.
