Glitter, gold and a bit of shimmer filled the auditorium as the Memphis theater community honored their own.

Around 400 people — many dressed in elaborate costumes, sequins and gowns — gathered for the 40th Ostranders at the Orpheum Theatre in Downtown Memphis on Monday, Aug. 28.

The Ostranders are annual local theater awards given for notable performances in directing, acting and backstage work.

Throughout the evening, the crowd reflected the sentiments of Michael Detroit, the executive producer of Playhouse on the Square. He received the Eugart Yerian Lifetime Achievement Award during the event.
