Water is a force of pain and pleasure in Brooks Museum’s latest exhibit

On March 19, 1960, about 40 LeMoyne College and Owen Junior College students were arrested during sit-ins at the Cossitt and Main library branches, where they were protesting segregation.

That year, Memphians also had sit-ins at the Memphis Zoo, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, lunch counters, Malco movie theaters, public spaces and other locations.
