Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti issued an alert about crooks posing as vehicle and equipment dealerships to steal money from prospective buyers.
He cited the example of Equipment Express, a legitimate forklift dealer in Tennessee that was impersonated by crooks.
The real company doesn’t have a website, but the crooks created a fake one advertising excavators and dump trucks dirt cheap. They lifted pictures of the equipment off the Internet.
Skrmetti didn’t cite specific victims and how much they lost, but a recent alert from the Connecticut BBB about a similar case did.
