Cristina McCarter is the owner of Feast and Graze, a shop that specializes in charcuterie boards and cheese, and she was looking for a new location in East Memphis.

She took one look at a revamped empty space in Poplar Plaza, the city’s oldest shopping area and a landmark for many Memphians, and knew it would suit her needs just fine.

β€œIt was instantly the right size. They were willing to work with me on how I wanted it to look and everything. It just seems like an easy fit for what we wanted to do,” said McCarter, who opened her business in 2019. β€œIt’s Poplar and Highland. That’s a well-known area. It’s really close to my house, and it’s really close to a lot of my customers. It was an easy yes for me.”

McCarter will be one of the first tenants in a revamped plan for a long-stagnant part of Poplar Plaza, the former Spin Street site facing one of the city’s busiest intersections.
