Fixing a taxiway, adding a lounge: New airport board greenlights constructions projects

The new nine-member Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority met Wednesday, Aug. 19, and approved construction contracts, ranging from fixing a taxiway and runway configuration, snow removal equipment shed and new passenger lounge.

It also marked the first time in airport board history that a majority of members — five of nine — are Black.

“That’s fantastic, and I think as a majority-minority city, we should be proud of that fact,” said Mike Keeney, who was unanimously reelected as the board’s chair.
