U.S. Marshals Service Director Gadyaces Serralta told U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn the next phase of the Memphis Safe Task Force will involve long-term recommendations for changing Memphis Police Department policies.

Serralta made the comments on Blackburn’s “Unmuted with Marsha” podcast recorded Nov. 3, about one month past the Sept. 29 launch of the federal-state-local law enforcement operation.

“What happens is if we handcuff our law enforcement officers, the handcuffs are taken and the bad guys are going to get away,” he said. “That hasn’t been said. … We are all learning from each other.”

Serralta wasn’t specific about what police policies he has talked with MPD Chief C.J. Davis about changing.
