Memphis-Shelby County Schools and its security resource officers have settled their dispute over pay and other issues, meaning this week’s football jamborees should have a full complement of security, officials said Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the MSCS board’s committee meeting.

As part of the dispute, some SROs walked out of an introductory meeting Monday, Aug. 12, with new executive director of safety and security, George Harris. SROs also threatened a walkout for this week’s football jamboree games over issues relating to increased pay and the need for more officers.

“I will ensure that the manpower is what it needs to be, and I will be there myself on all (the) days,” Harris told the board at the meeting Tuesday. “I will assure you that you will see my face (at the jamborees).”

MSCS Superintendent Marie Feagins also walked back her recent proposal to have all overtime be approved by her or someone she designates, with no exceptions for emergencies.
