Everybody Speeds: Memphis-area tickets are down, but traffic deaths are up

The reports are anecdotal but alarming: Everyone in the Memphis area, it seems, has seen cars blow past them on the interstate as well as surface streets, colorful blurs with speeds approaching the outrageous.

Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner Jr. has seen what some might call extreme speeding, including a recent Saturday morning when he was in his personal vehicle and heading west on Humphreys Boulevard.
