Shelby County Juvenile Court Judge Tarik Sugarmon is opposed to managing the county’s youth detention facility.

Sugarmon told The Daily Memphian this week the court does not have the budget to take over control of the facility from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

He also expressed concerns about the lack of clarity regarding the court’s role if the transition were to take place.
