The demolition of the old Holiday Inn hotel tower at 969 Madison Ave. in the Memphis Medical District is underway with expected completion by February.

The demolition is part of the $100 million in capital projects planned or underway that will modernize the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s aging campus.

In 2015, UTHSC bought the former hotel with two smaller adjacent buildings at 955 and 959 Madison Ave. that were taken down first.
