Buckley: Scottie Scheffler has reason to smile. It’s not what you might think.

Tim is a veteran sportswriter who graduated from CBHS in Memphis and the University of Missouri. He previously covered LSU sports in Baton Rouge, and the University of Louisiana football and basketball for The Daily Advertiser/USA TODAY Network in Lafayette, the NBA’s Utah Jazz for the Deseret News in Salt Lake City, the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning for the St. Petersburg Times in Florida, and West Texas State basketball for the Amarillo Globe News in Texas.
He has won six PGA Tour events this year alone, including The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in March and the Masters at Augusta National in April.
He won a Summer Olympics gold medal 10 days ago at Le Golf National at Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France, then bawled his eyes out on the podium as the United States’ national anthem was played.
He’s the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world heading into the FedEx St. Championship, which gets underway Thursday at TPC Southwind.
